Information for GPs and specialists referring patients to Western Haematology Network in Sunbury and Williamstown.

A current written referral from a GP or specialist is required for haematology consultations so that Medicare rebates can apply. We accept new and review referrals. Patients from nearby suburbs, including Footscray, Newport and Altona, are welcome at Williamstown; Sunbury serves Melbourne’s north-west.

What we accept

New and review haematology referrals, including myeloma, lymphoma, MPN, MDS, leukaemia, anaemia, iron deficiency, haemochromatosis, clotting and bleeding disorders, iron infusion, venesection, and bone marrow biopsy.

Urgency

  • Urgent — call the rooms on 0447 863 076.
  • Soon — clinically significant results needing review in 1–2 weeks.
  • Routine — 2–4 weeks.
  • • All referrals are triaged within 1–2 business days. A haematologist reviews referrals within 24 hours.

What to include

  • • Referral letter outlining the clinical history and reason for referral
  • • Recent FBC and film, and iron studies where relevant
  • • Relevant imaging reports or specialist letters
  • • Current medication list
  • • Patient contact details
